What is coronary angioplasty ?
Coronary angioplasty is a procedure used to open blocked coronary arteries caused by coronary artery disease ( blockage in blood vessels supplying blood to the heart ). It restores the blood flow to the heart muscle
Why is coronary angioplasty done ?
Coronary angioplasty is done when there is a significant blockage in the blood vessels of the heart on a coronary angiogram or other imaging modalities ( e.g CT coronary angiography ). When it is done in case of a heart attack it is called Primary angioplasty.
